Getting connected, letting AI agents in on your terms, and how to reach the person who makes Bison.
Get started
Choose File ▸ New Connection… (⌘N), paste a connection string (mongodb:// or mongodb+srv://) into Connection String, and click Connect. Passwords are stored in your Keychain, never in the connection string.
To reach a server through SSH, turn on Connect through an SSH tunnel in the connection’s SSH section and choose your key file or enter a password. The macOS app sandbox doesn’t let Bison use ssh-agent, ProxyJump or ProxyCommand.
AI agents
Agent access is off until you turn it on in Bison ▸ Settings ▸ Agents. Bison first explains what agents can see and where it goes. Each connection then decides what agents may do, under Connection ▸ Edit ▸ Agents; new connections are Blocked.
Connect a Client… in the same pane shows how to add Bison to Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and VS Code.
When something doesn’t connect
Can’t reach the server. Check the host name, port and your network or VPN. For MongoDB Atlas, add your IP address to the project’s IP access list.
A server on your local network. macOS asks once whether Bison may use the local network. You can change the answer in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Local Network.
Sign-in or TLS errors. Bison says which step failed. Open the details under the message and include them when you write.
